Course Image Gr1 Islamic Studies

Grade One - Islamic studies

 

Grade One Islamic studies will cover five main units: Aqeedah and Fiqh, Seerah and Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Tafsir, Islamic Morals and Etiquettes and Tajweed.

·  Aqeedah (Creed): Students will be introduced to the basics of Tawheed: God’s Oneness (Who is your Lord? What is your religion and Who is your Prophet?) and will be introduced to Asma wa al Husna - most beautiful names and attributes of Allah, Al Khaliq, Al Razaaq and al Musawwir

· Fiqh: Students will learn to prepare for Wudhu (or taharah and
cleanliness) and will study basic attributes of Salah (Sifat As Salaah).

 

The Five Pillars in Islam

 

· Seerah: Students will be introduced to the Seerah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the short surahs.

They will also study the biographies of some of the early reverts to islam: Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid r.a., Salman Al Farisi, Bilal ibn Rabah, Suhayb Ar Roumi, Al Bara ibn Marrour, Mus’ab ibn ‘Umayr, Khabbab ibn Al Arat, Al Miqdad ibn ‘Amrou, (r.a).

· Character Education: Adab is integrated into the entire program and students will study the Sunnah of the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) starting with Ikhlas, good intention, saying Bismillah, praising Allah and memorizing a list of supplications each year (Quran with tajweed program).

Course Image Gr2 Islamic Studies

Grade Two – Islamic Studies


Grade Two students will study a course comprising of the five units: Aqeedah, Fiqh, Seerah, Hadith, Islamic Morals and Etiquettes.

In Semester 1 students will review topics covered in Grade One: Istinjaa and Istijmaar, Procedure of Wudoo, Nullifiers of Wudoo, The Opening Duaa of Salaah, The Three Fundamental Principles, and Five Pillars of Islam.

In Semester 2,they would cover the Five Pillars of Iman, Ranks of Deen,  The essence of Ihsan is knowing the Prophet (upon him be peace), Belief in Resurrection, The Prescribed prayers, Description of  Prayer, Tashahhud, and The Nullifiers of Prayer.

Sahabah Series: In this series students will study about the ten Companions who wrote down the Quran.

Hadith: In Grade Two, students will learn the meaning and benefits of a selected group of  hadith, in English with Arabic text with their authentic references, briefly learn about biography of the narrator of the hadith, the meaning and an explanation of the Arabic terms in order to apply their values in their daily lives.

 

Character Education: Adab is integrated into the entire program and students will learn the Sunnah of the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) starting with Ikhlas, good intention, saying bismillah, praising Allah and memorizing a list of Supplications each year. Islamic Morals & Etiquettes

Duas continued: Duas of the Azan, the Iqamah, (the call to prayer), making ablution (wudhu), of purifying dress, body and place, of going to the masjid, of performing Salah, and of going to bed shall be taught to the students.

Grade Five – Islamic Studies


The students will learn a course comprising of six units - Aqeedah, Hadeeth, Fiqh, Sciences of the Quran, Character Education and Tajweed.

Aqeedah (Islamic theology):
1. Means to Victory
2. Knowledge precedes action
3. The necessity of following Prophet and being distant from shirk
4. The impermissibility of friendship with those hostile to the commandments of Allah and his messenger.
5. The pure nature of human being.
6. The three principles.
7. The signs of Allah and His creations.
8. The Bestower of blessings deserves to be worshipped.
9. Types of devotion and the ruling regarding the one who performs it other than for the sake of Allah.
Fiqh - Islamic Jurisprudence
1. Types of water
2. Wiping over leather socks
3. Tayammum (Dry Ablution)
4. Salah
5. Etiquette of going for prayer and waiting for it.
6. Description of Prayer
7. Recommended acts in Prayer
8. Disliked acts in Prayer

Hadeeth: Explanation of the following Hadeeth:
1. The sincerity of intention the basis of acceptability of actions
2. Pillars of Islam
3. Care for Mosques

8. Virtue of visiting the sick

Sahaba Series: In this series, students will learn about the Hadeeth Scholars: Abu Hurairah, Abu Dar, Mua’d ibn Jabal, Abdullah Ibn Abbas and Abdullah ibn Umr (may Allah be pleased with them all).
Sciences of the Quran Part 1 – (Ramadan Program)
Students will learn Uloom al Quran under the following headings.
1. Introduction
a. Definition and benefits of Knowledge
b. History of Uloom al Quran
2. The Quran: meaning, definition, different names given to the Quran
3. Concept of Wahy/revelation

Course Image Gr1 Arabic Studies

Arabic Studies

In Grade One students will be using the Logati curriculum text books. The lessons will cover Arabic reading, writing and comprehension as first language. Quiz taking and tests would also be applicable as in other subjects.

 

Reading: The students will learn to recognize and read long and short sounds, break each word into syllables, read each syllable separately and then connect them to form words. They will read sentences in which words containing the targeted letters are embedded. Students will also read short poems or songs related to the topics to make memorization easy.  

 

The first term consists of reading comprehensions on topics such as My Family, My School, My City, etc. The second term covers lessons on My Health and My Diet, My Games and My Hobbies, My Health and My Safety, and Animals and Occasions.

 

Listening: Students will learn to recognize phonetic differences in Arabic letters discussed in separate chapters and will learn to apply the correct pronunciation of letters and words with the use of vowel sounds of  ا و and ي  with the three  natural extensions  (با- بي –بو).

 

Speaking:  The Logati books are richly illustrated with visuals that help students describe and communicate their thoughts and feelings.  Class discussion will include narrating short stories from their own experiences, for instance: My Family, My School, etc.

 

Writing: Students will learn to write each letter with its distinct shape and also use it in the beginning, middle and at the end of a written word. They will write letters in words using their correct sounds and diacritical marks i.e., harakat (fatha - kasra - dhamma - shadda, etc.).

 

Grammar and vocabulary: The lessons include a variety of vocabulary based on reading comprehension. Additional vocabulary is introduced through various activities and discussions on specific topics during the lesson. Students will learn 3 types of Arabic personal pronouns,ضمائر المتكلم-ضمائر المخاطب-ضمائر الغائب , and use them in short sentences that start with these pronouns. They will also learn some demonstrative pronouns and how they should be used for both masculine and feminine words.  Singular and plural words, affirmative and negative forms of words, verb phrase: the usage of verb for masculine and feminine such as use of تاء التأنيث for feminine will be taught to students in grammar and vocabulary.

 

All of the above will be taught at the level of understanding of the students, and a more detailed Lesson Plan will be available for parents of YMOH. The Islamic Studies curriculum will also draw on other reputable Islamic Homeschooling material and is subject to change based on its application to this grade.
